At our Friday noon Coffee Talk with the Ministers (on Zoom) we posed the topic: How are we all dealing with the mandate of “self home confinement?” which surfaced the problem of boredom. I brought up the idea that maybe the coronavirus pandemic may have derived from the Divine Intention to cut us off from the many outer directed delights and distractions of the physical life. To offer us the opportunity to explore the internal spiritual life.
Here’s master, Eckhart Tolle, explaining our human dilemma: (from his book Stillness Speaks)
The mind exists in a state of “not enough” and so is always greedy for more.
When you are identified with mind, you get bored and restless very easily. Boredom means the mind is hungry for more stimulus, more food for thought
and its hunger is not being satisfied.
Instead of picking up a magazine, turning on the TV, surfing the web or eating again, you can use the state of boredom as a springboard into the higher state of awareness. We will examine the master’s insights on this path of personal transformation.
