
HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVE FOR WOUNDED KNEE IS UNDERWAY
Nov 10th through Dec 20th!
We are pleased to announce that our 2024 Holiday Gift Drive for the Community of Wounded Knee is underway! We have been sending Holiday Gifts and Community Dinner Items to the Lakota Families of Wounded Knee, SD for over 30 years. Non-perishable donations are being accepted year-round at our center.
Each year during the ‘Giving Season’ we host our Holiday Gift Drive for the Lakota children and elders of the Community of Wounded Knee. It is the highlight of our Outreach Year! Through donations from our Unity Community and the surrounding area in the way of food items, winter wear, children’s and gifts we bring some cheer to over 25 families in time for the Children’s Christmas Party on Christmas Eve! (You may make donations of money to go towards the purchase of items on our list. (below) in lieu of food or gift items.)
DONATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED IN OUR MAIN LOBBY THRU DEC 20th. If you would like to be a part of the team that drives the delivery truck to Wounded Knee, SD, please contact our office at 303-442-1411 and speak with Heather. The items are delivered between the 20th & 23rd of December. Uhaul Truck Rentals provides us with a discount on our 26 ft. truck rental every year through their charity foundation. We are grateful for their consistent support every year.
ABOUT DONATIONS: If you do not live in the area and would like to participate in our Holiday Gift Drive, or you would like to make a monetary donation you may contribute in the following ways here on eventbrite. TRAVEL EXPENSES: Fuel, 25′ Truck Rental Costs, Lodging & Misc. You can make a donation to go towards Travel Expenses for the delivery of our Holiday Donations to Wounded Knee.
BIKE DONATIONS: If you have an old bike to donate, we will send it to the repair shop (located onsite in Wounded Knee) and fix it up for a child. If you specify that you would like your donation to go towards the purchase of a bike for a child, you can make a donation in that category.
OUR GIVING TREE: Everyone is welcome to help bring a joyous and sharing Holiday Season to our Lakota Brothers & Sisters. We will have a Giving Tree posted our the main lobby where you can choose a tag for a child in need of a gift. You may make a monetary donation to go twards the purchase of a gift for a child or elders. You may also buy any child a gift and label it with a size and age range (without a tag from our tree). We serve over 100 Lakota Children during the Giving Season AND 50 Elders.
We will be collecting non-perishable items, gifts for elders (space heaters, blankets, winter outerwear, socks), new toys and bicycles until Friday, December 20th, at 2pm.
