Dear Friends,

I thought you would appreciate this love story of Bob and Agnes. Two people who helped to make Unity happen in Boulder.

When Robert and Agnes Witting each took summer jobs at a Chicago hospital in the late 1930's, they expected to help fill the gaps in the kitchen staff, not meet the loves of their lives.

"We were just friends at first, after we met at our summer jobs," said Agnes, now

90. "Then, we both started singing in the choir at the same Baptist church."

"We started going to church parties and seeing each other more and more,"

93-year-old Bob added. "Eventually, we decided we should get married."

The couple eloped in 1940, when Bob was 20 and Agnes was 17. "My mother

had met Bob, and she said she'd rather I marry a really nice man even though I was

young than marry the wrong man some other time," Agnes said.

Seventy-two years, two children, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren

later, the Mesa couple are still together, sharing a travel trailer decorated with Agnes's

paintings and Bob's wood carvings at Sun Life RV Resort.
